POTOMAC SHORES GOLF CLUB WELCOMES NEW GENERAL MANAGER
Dumfries, Va. (March 6, 2020) – Potomac Shores Golf Club in Dumfries, Va. recently welcomed Craig Luckey as the club’s new general manager. Named one of the “Top Golf Courses You Can Play in Virginia” by Golfweek magazine, Potomac Shores is an 18-hole, Jack Nicklaus Signature design managed by Troon Golf.
Luckey is a 22-year golf and hospitality industry veteran and has been with Troon, the industry leading club management company, since 2000. Prior to arriving at Potomac Shores Golf Club, Luckey was the director of club operations at The Golf Club at Equinox in Manchester, Vt. Throughout his career Luckey has served in leadership roles at many fine clubs including Little River Golf Resort in Pinehurst, N.C. and Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa in Savannah Harbor, Ga. During his tenure at Savannah Harbor, the club was recognized as the Troon Facility of the Year in 2008. Luckey is a Class A member of the PGA of America.
“We are excited to have Craig lead the club operations at Potomac Shores,” said Mitch Harrell, president, Troon Golf. “He is an outstanding leader, a great communicator and has raised the experience level at every club he’s led.”
In April 2019, Potomac Shores completed a multi-phase course enhancement project which included re-grassing fairways and bunker renovations. Phase one of the course improvement project was completed in September 2018 and focused on replacing bent grass fairways with Latitude 36 Bermudagrass. Phase two began in mid-October and involved eliminating and renovating bunkers. The total number of bunkers decreased from 77 to 74, while the total square footage of bunkers was reduced by 40 percent, from approximately 103,000 square feet to approximately 63,000 square feet.
Potomac Shores Golf Club originally opened for daily-fee play in May of 2014. Upon opening, the facility was named one of the “Best New Courses” in the U.S. by Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine.
