Pro Turf International Answers Call From School District To Repair Five Football Fields
Less than three weeks before the start of the 2019 high school football season in Clark County, the teams were preparing and the excitement level was growing.
But there was one problem. Many of the football fields were in poor condition, creating an unsafe environment for the players.
So the Clark County School District turned to a local company with expertise in turf management to fix the problem in a short amount of time. Pro Turf International, noted for its outstanding work on golf courses all over the southwest, answered the call.
“The fields had a lot of pits, weak turf areas and in some cases areas with no turf,” said Jeremie Smith of Pro Turf International. “And we had a small time window in which to fix the problems. We basically went in and identified the worse areas on the playing surfaces and managed to fix them on time.”
The crew, headed by Allan Wright and working in conjunction with Valley Sod, turned around a total of five high school fields in the challenging time frame. The work included cutting and preparing areas for new sod, installing fill material as needed, leveling and packing affected areas, and installing big roll 419 Bermuda grass sod.
The total turf replacement square footage at the five schools was: Liberty High School (3,200 square feet); Sierra Vista (5,000 square feet); Spring Valley (2,300 square feet); Desert Oasis (8,700 square feet) and Basic High (4,000 square feet).
“Areas where grass has died is not only unsightly but can pose a risk of additional damage and injury to users of the field,” said Wright. “PTI addressed the task with precision by removing only dead or diseased spots and placing healthy fill material for Valley Sod to install new turf. The sod was then adjusted to make a smooth transition into the existing grass as seamlessly as possible. We followed with a strict system of fertilizing, watering, and manicuring of the fields bringing them to an optimal condition for start this year’s football season.”
