NEW MILESTONES MARK HIGHLIGHTS FOR RAYMOND HEARN GOLF COURSE DESIGNS, INC

July 7, 2025

Summer is here—and the golf world is busy. That’s also the case for our business. From new designs to the renovation and restoration of Golden Age classics, there’s a great deal that’s been going on in recent weeks, and a lot of exciting news for what’s upcoming.

Design work has been finalized on an outstanding new par 3 course at the Sugarloaf Resort in Carrabassett Valley, Maine.

We’ve been busy with work at longtime client Boyne Highlands, starting with the opening of hole 10 at the Donald Ross Memorial, where a hole inspired by the famed “Foxy” at Royal Dornoch in the north of Scotland has turned heads. Alongside that is the new Par-3 course, Doon Brae, which opened to rave reviews in early June, and really shows what can be accomplished through creative and fun alternatives to full-length 18-hole designs.

In other news, our new course design at The Cardinal Golf Club at the prestigious Saint John’s Resort outside Detroit will host a LIV Tour in August. It’ll be exciting to see some of the biggest stars in the game try our new design.

As well, in our Summer Newsletter in the link below you’ll find more info about some upcoming renovations and restorations, with some of the details about those projects. https://matchplaygolf.ca/HearnNewsletter-Summer2025/

We are thrilled to be involved with all these outstanding clubs!

He said chief among the factors is passion, especially in master planning renovation and or restoration updates to existing courses. His firm is selective and works on four courses maximum per year so that he can be significantly involved with each project.

Unique among modern day golf course architects, Hearn is among the few with multiple degrees in Landscape Architecture and Turfgrass Science with emphasis in Golf Course Architecture from Michigan State University.

Hearn is also an accomplished writer and teacher. Pete Dye, one of Ray’s mentors and one of his ASGCA sponsors, told him to study courses overseas in the birthplace of golf. He has made over 12 trips to study in Scotland, Ireland and England. Since 1996, he has taught a golf course design class, taught onsite for several years overseas, and now offers it on-line for developers, board members, golf professionals, superintendents and golf enthusiasts.
