RIO VERDE, Ariz. – A long-running tradition continues at Rio Verde Country Club, where the Women’s Golf Association (WGA) raised $100,000 for the Sojourner Center during the club’s annual Sojourner Charity Event on March 3.
With this year’s results, the event has now generated $315,500 over the past nine years in support of the Phoenix-based nonprofit, which provides shelter, counseling, and transitional support for survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking.
The March 3 event began with a golf outing featuring 187 players across Rio Verde Country Club’s two 18-hole golf courses, followed by dinner and a fundraising program that included both silent and live auctions.
Rio Verde’s partnership with Sojourner Center has grown into a meaningful tradition of community support. In 2024, those efforts were recognized with the Stewart Lazar Community Award, which honors organizations that have made a lasting difference for survivors of abuse across Arizona.

Founded in 1977, Sojourner Center provides life-saving services for individuals escaping abuse, including emergency shelter, counseling, education, and transitional housing. In 2024 alone, the organization provided refuge for 965 survivors and answered more than 3,000 hotline calls from individuals seeking safety. Its transitional housing program offers up to two years of comprehensive support, helping survivors rebuild their independence and confidence.
Funds raised during the Rio Verde event help support Sojourner Center’s ongoing efforts to assist women and families as they move from crisis toward long-term stability.
