Rocket Mortgage Classic Unveils Vision for Expanding Community Impact of Detroit’s First PGA TOUR Event
The Rocket Mortgage Classic announces turnkey fundraising platform, Birdies for Charity, to support numerous nonprofits through pledges from individuals and corporations across metro-Detroit
The Rocket Mortgage Classic today unveiled the vision for charitable efforts tied to Detroit’s first ever PGA TOUR event taking place June 25-30 at the historic Detroit Golf Club. Aiming to be a launchpad for long-term positive impact, the tournament has created the Rocket Mortgage Classic Birdies for Charity program to help increase the amount of positive change the event has in Detroit.
The Rocket Mortgage Classic Birdies for Charity program is an interactive and unique way for nonprofit organizations to raise funds and awareness using the excitement of a PGA TOUR event. Through the program, all registered non-profit organizations who apply will collect donations based on the total number of birdies – strokes below par on a hole – shot by PGA TOUR pros during tournament play. The lower the golf scores, the greater the impact for local non-profits.
The program invites all non-profit organizations in good standing to apply and directs 100 percent of proceeds collected to the participating organizations. With no administrative fees or heavy lifting, this turnkey program is a unique and proven way to raise significant funding for local groups.
“While the action on the course at the Rocket Mortgage Classic is sure to be outstanding, what really excites us is the impact that the tournament will have on the non-profit partners who are truly making a difference in the city of Detroit on a daily basis,” said Jay Farner, CEO of Detroit-based Quicken Loans. “All proceeds from the tournament will be reinvested into our local community so that the positive influence of the Rocket Mortgage Classic can expand well beyond the events at the Detroit Golf Club and benefit our partners all year long.”
Interested participants can click here for additional details and registration. Applications will be accepted through June 21.
The Rocket Mortgage Classic Birdies for Charity program is easy for everyone to participate. All donors will be able to direct funds to their chosen organizations and can either offer a set donation amount or get into the action on the course by pledging a pre-determined amount per birdie made by the professionals competing in the tournament. Donations can be accepted online at any time, or by check with no processing fees. Adding another element of competition to the program, each donor will be asked to submit their guess for the total number of birdies made – with prizes being awarded to those who pick closest to the actual number.
Local corporations and foundations are also encouraged to participate by providing matching donations to help maximize the giving from this program. Matching funds help all individual donations go further to advance and support the missions of all participating organizations.
“The Rocket Mortgage Classic Birdies for Charity program is a well-known, tried-and-true fundraiser that has enjoyed tremendous success across the PGA TOUR for many years by supporting hardworking local organizations in each community, allowing them to expand the reach and impact of their important work,” said Jason Langwell, Executive Director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. “The Rocket Mortgage Classic is all about embracing our local community and making this an inclusive event for all to enjoy. The Rocket Mortgage Classic Birdies for Charity program is a fun way to raise funds for the organizations and volunteers who pour their blood, sweat and tears into helping this community grow and thrive.”
In addition to the Rocket Mortgage Classic Birdies for Charity program, the tournament today also announced it has selected several local beneficiaries, including the Detroit Children’s Fund, Midnight Golf, First Tee of Greater Detroit, the Greater Palmer Park Community and Detroit Golf Club Caddie Scholarship.
In Detroit alone, Quicken Loans has invested more than $200 million in community organizations and programming, and the company’s team members have spent more than 350,000 hours volunteering in the community, since moving downtown in 2010.
