Dennis W. Archer, former Mayor of Detroit, returns as the tournament’s Volunteer General Chair
DETROIT – The Rocket Mortgage Classic is now accepting applications for 2,000 volunteers as the tournament heads into its second year, taking place May 25-31, 2020 at the Detroit Golf Club.
Volunteers were the driving force behind the first PGA TOUR event to ever be held in the city of Detroit last year, and event organizers encourage those in the greater Detroit community to hop on the volunteer bandwagon and help the tournament’s sophomore year be even more special than the first. Those interested can register by visiting RocketMortgageClassic.com and clicking on “Volunteer.”
“The inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic was a successful, award-winning event thanks to the overwhelming support and dedication of our volunteers,” said Jason Langwell, Executive Director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. “Our volunteers were quite literally the face and soul of the tournament – they play a crucial role in the amazing service we provide our attendees. As we prepare for the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic, we encourage returning volunteers and new recruits to enjoy the event from inside the ropes and behind the scenes – experiencing how a world-class PGA TOUR tournament operation is executed.”
All Rocket Mortgage Classic volunteer opportunities are open to anyone ages 18 and up, while those 15-17 years old can serve as Junior Volunteers (Standard Bearers). All volunteers work a minimum of two five-hour shifts throughout the week. Some committees may require longer hours or additional shift requirements.
Detroit’s Major has upgraded the volunteer experience and established new amenities for 2020, including the creation of a new volunteer entrance at the tournament’s main gate, a new centralized volunteer headquarters location and exclusive volunteer happy hours at Detroit Golf Club during tournament week. Similar to 2019, each adult volunteer will receive a Volunteer credential, a Weekly Grounds Ticket, an official Rocket Mortgage Classic volunteer uniform by Levelwear Golf and complimentary parking and meals while volunteering at the Rocket Mortgage Classic – a package valued at $595 – with their $75 participation fee.
Dennis W. Archer, former Mayor of Detroit, will return as the tournament’s Volunteer General Chair to oversee all volunteer committees. Along with Archer, other individuals will assume the roles of Vice Chairs and Committee Chairs to run the various operational functions.
The Rocket Mortgage Classic will feature 156 of the world’s top professional golfers competing over four days for a $7.5 million purse. More information for the second Rocket Mortgage Classic is available at www.RocketMortgageClassic.com.

About the Rocket Mortgage Classic
The Rocket Mortgage Classic made history in 2019 as the first PGA TOUR event ever held in the city of Detroit, and Nate Lashley added to the historic feel of the week by winning for the first time on the PGA TOUR and becoming the tournament’s inaugural champion. Embodying the spirit of Detroit, the week-long event featured great entertainment, cuisine and social activities on and off the course. The Rocket Mortgage Classic was the most awarded event during the 2018-19 PGA TOUR season, being recognized for “Best Special Event” (the AREA 313 Celebrity Challenge) and “Best Tournament Sales” as well as being honored with the first “Fair Way Award” for its diversity and inclusion initiatives. The Rocket Giving Fund is the primary charitable beneficiary of the tournament and will support many local charities.
