ROWIN DREAMS OF PGA TOUR SPOT & WEARING HIS FAVORITE SHOES
-Latinoamerica Tour star aiming for super-charged return to action-
Dutch golfer Rowin Caron, who five years ago was a European team-mate of current world No.2 Jon Rahm, dreams of the day that he makes his own debut on the full PGA Tour.
Now based in Las Vegas, the 26-year-old professional is currently in his second season on the PGA Latinoamerica Tour and finished T3 in the season-opening event in Mexico in March, with four rounds in the 60’s and an aggregate score of -26.
During the enforced Coronavirus lockdown period, Rowin has devoted a lot of time enhancing his mental approach to the game, as well as keeping as fit as possible ahead of resuming his promising career this summer.
Still under lockdown, he can’t wait to drive five minutes away from his home to TPC Summerlin – venue for the PGA Tour’s Shinners Hospitals for Children Open event – to resume practicing for bigger things to come and test out the latest shoes from his sponsor Duca del Cosma. The Italian fashion brand has recently entered the U.S. market with its premium range of golf shoes that already sell in more than 30 countries around the world.
“I’m really excited at the prospect of playing on the full PGA Tour one day and have often visualized stepping out at a top golf course in my distinctive Duca shoes to make my debut,” said Rowin. “My game is in good spot right now and I’ve improved mentally. I’m putting less pressure on myself, which has made a big difference. I feel that I just have to improve my short game a little to take it to the next level and I’m ready to go hard towards my goals when restrictions are lifted,” he added.
Having made an impressive start at the Estrella del Mar Open in Mexico, Rowin returned to the house in Las Vegas he shares with fellow Latinoamerica contender and former No. 1 world amateur American Justin Suh, as eight scheduled events were promptly postponed. The next Latinoamerica Tour event could be staged in August in Brazil, where Rowin had a T5 result last year. Other tournaments might then he held in Peru and Columbia, before the Tour Championship finale in October at a venue yet to be decided.
His favorite choice of Duca footwear for tournament play is a pair of the classic Heritage waterproof shoes, designed in Italy and handcrafted in full grain leather in Portugal. “They’re really comfortable and smart and I get asked about them all the time by other Tour pros, especially during practice rounds. Now I’m looking forward to building on the great relationship I have with the Duca brand and hopefully making it to the full PGA Tour sometime soon,” he added.
Last season, Rowin performed well on Europe’s Challenge Tour with top 10 finishes in Northern Ireland and France, as well as an impressive 27th spot at the main European Tour event in his native Holland, the KLM Open. He also finished in T7 in the Latinoamerica Tour’s Shell Championship at Trump National Doral’s Golden Palm course and T8 in Jamaica – his first career top 10 in only his second Tour appearance.
During a successful amateur career, he and Spaniard Jon Rahm represented Europe on the 2015 Palmer Cup team.
