Behind the scenes over the last year, the hard-working marketing team led by Producer Joel Cardenas and Director Joel Johnston have been working on an amazing project to celebrate the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex’s 90th Anniversary. The special documentary celebrating the story of this unique public golf course chronicles the property itself going back more than 150 years, all of the amazing celebrities that have graced its fairways and some of the key personalities that have shaped the course over the years.
Over an hour and a half film, dozens of stories are told of the influences on this magical municipal course. From James Ben Ali Haggin himself, to legendary course designer Alister MacKenzie, to the two most honored PGA Professionals ever to run a single facility in Tom LoPresti and Ken Morton, Sr, not a stone is left unturned. Whether it’s Ben Hogan’s first professional check or three documented duels that were held on the property before it became a course, the film’s unique stories tie together a wonderful unique story.
On Tuesday, December 13th at the historic Crest Theater in downtown Sacramento at 7pm, nearly 700 golf staff, volunteers, city dignitaries, local media, customers, sales reps, vendors and close friends and family celebrated the world premiere of this special film to celebrate a very special golf course and its story.
Written by Ken Morton, Jr. and voiced over by Sacramento Kings play-by-play man Gary Gerould and Golf-To-Go radio host Frank LaRosa, the film is a loving tribute to a property that has seen more love affairs started with the game of golf perhaps more than any other public golf property in the United States.
