HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.  – Ben Harris, The Sea Pines Resort’s Executive Chef of Restaurants, has been promoted to Resort Executive Chef.

Harris, who joined The Sea Pines Resort culinary team in March 2018, will oversee all resort restaurants including Quarterdeck, Links, an American Grill, Coast, Ocean Lounge, Fraser’s Tavern and Harbourside.

“Chef Ben has proven himself many times over in the areas of financial forecasting, teambuilding, staff development and quality of product,” said Matthew Roher, Director of Food and Beverage for The Sea Pines Resort.  “This is a well-earned promotion for a valued member of our culinary team.”

Since arriving at The Sea Pines Resort, Harris has built strong relationships with the Lowcountry’s finest purveyors and fishermen and works closely with the Sea Pines community’s Heritage Farm to showcase the herbs and greens grown there on menus throughout the resort.

“This next chapter in my career is both exciting and challenging,” said Harris.  “The Sea Pines Resort prides itself on innovative and creative menus and I am thrilled to be able to take our culinary programs to the next level.”

Originally from Raleigh, NC, Ben Harris embarked on his culinary career at an oyster bar in Greenville while still in college. He later served as a sous chef and chef de cuisine at Charleston’s Poogan’s Porch. He also did stints at Republic Garden and Lounge (Charleston) and Midtown Grille in his hometown of Raleigh.

Harris returned to Charleston in 2016 to become executive chef of Poogan’s Porch, where he embraced the challenge of maintaining a 40-year history while still evolving the menu.

Last summer, Harris cooked before a national television audience on NBC’s Today, making fried street corn elote fingers and local roasted shrimp, both from the Quarterdeck Restaurant menu that he helped create.
