The numbers are staggering. One in four kids in the state of Alabama suffers from food insecurity – the lack of access to safe, nutritious food on a daily basis due to a lack of resources. For the last seven years, former PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner has attacked that problem head on and is making a difference among disadvantaged youth in Lee County where Dufner resides.
Today, Secret Golf, Inc., one of golf’s fastest growing digital media companies, announced support for one of their own, running a promotion from April 25-May 6 on SecretGolf.com where the company will donate 50% of the subscription fee for any annual new memberships to the Jason Dufner Foundation. During the time of the pro-motion, Dufner’s fourth annual Celebrity Golf Classic will be held on Monday, April 30 at the Auburn University Club.
“I think one of the best things that’s come from my success on the golf course is the platform I have to be able to help kids in my community, ” Dufner, a member of Team Secret Golf, said. “We are feeding about 1200 kids every week during school year and another 800 during the summer. I’m proud I’m able to give back and actually see smiles on kids faces.”
Since 2011, the Dufner Foundation has focused on ending childhood hunger in this area of the state, through partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations.
Through his foundation, Dufner is also active with End Childhood Hunger in Alabama (ECHA) – a statewide task force formed to leverage resources, raising awareness and funds for the issue.
“What Jason has done with this program is quite remarkable and Secret Golf is more than happy to help support him,” Steve Elkington, the co-founder of Secret Golf and a 10-time winner on the PGA TOUR said. “I’m hopeful we can raise a bunch of money through an increase in our subscriptions and people know it will be going to a very worthwhile cause that’s near and dear to Jason’s heart.”
