San Jose, Calif. – Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San Jose, Calif., recently welcomed Charles Lewis as the club’s new general manager and chief operating officer. Lewis will oversee all elements of the private club’s operation, including racquet sports, golf, swim, fitness, food and beverage, agronomy, sales and marketing, programming, and events.
An inspiring leader with 30-plus years of hospitality industry experience, Lewis has served in leadership roles at private clubs, hotels and universities. He most recently served as the executive director of operations and hospitality at Blackhawk Country Club in the East Bay where he led 100+ employees while supporting golf operations, agronomy, food and beverage, tennis, fitness, aquatics, sales, accounting, capital projects, programming and events. Prior to Blackhawk, Lewis worked with Air Culinaire Worldwide, a leading in-flight catering provider. Early in his career, he worked for the Hyatt Hotels Corporation, serving at properties in San Francisco, Hawaii, San Diego, and New York City. While with Hyatt, he completed the company’s F&B/Culinary training program and advanced quickly, serving as an executive chef, food and beverage director, and regional executive chef.
“The Board and Troon are thrilled with Charles steering the effort going forward,” said Silver Creek Valley Country Club Board President Bill Embleton. “His passion for quality, programming, teambuilding, training and putting the culture of the team and members first, align with the club’s long-term objectives to create a special place where members, their guests and employees can be the best version of themselves.”
Originally from Michigan, Lewis has two adult children and calls Morgan Hill, Calif. home. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening, cycling, cooking with his wife Karen for family and friends, and traveling.
Nestled in the foothills of the Silver Creek Valley region among magnificent oak trees, a meandering creek, wetlands, and native grass areas, the golf course was designed to coexist with the scenic natural environment. Originally designed by Ted Robinson in 1992, the Silver Creek Valley golf course was renovated by award-winning architect Mike Strantz in 2002. Silver Creek Valley Country Club is San Jose’s largest and most striking private golf and country club. Situated atop hills overlooking the golf course, lakeside waterfalls, and Silicon Valley, the 34,000-square-foot clubhouse underwent a multi-million-dollar enhancement project in 2016. The club also features a Sports Pavilion, which includes a beautiful tennis complex, fitness center and two swimming pools.
Silver Creek Valley Country Club is managed by Troon Privé, the private club operations division of Troon, and is a Boardroom Magazine “Distinguished Emerald Club” representing the best-of-the-best in private clubs.
