San Jose, Calif. – In the first 12-plus months since members of Silver Creek Valley Country Club formed an Employee Scholarship Foundation, 10 scholarships have been awarded to Club employees or their dependents to pursue post-secondary, trade, technical and other similar educational opportunities.
Formed in February 2023, the Foundation’s mission is to enable employees of Silver Creek Valley Country Club (SCVCC) to reduce their financial obligations so they can focus on learning as they pursue their educational goals. All SCVCC employees, both full and part time, who work a minimum of 400 hours a year, and their dependents, are eligible after one year of employment. Educational opportunities that qualify for the scholarship program include candidates pursuing 4-year accredited college or university, a 2-year accredited junior college, a nationally accredited and authorized vocational school or similar institution or educational program. Scholarship awards may be used to pay for tuition and fees required for enrollment and attendance, books, supplies, and equipment required for coursework.
Sixty-one members donated to the Scholarship Foundation in year one through either a one-time tax-deductible donation, or through monthly donations. Heading into year two, the Scholarship Foundation will expand to offer mentoring services to scholarship recipients.
“Through interviewing scholarship candidates we learned that many could benefit from a mentor – providing guidance with such things as understanding the importance of internships, taking the right classes to help them in their industry, and networking with people in their field. The financial assistance is great, but we know we can do a lot more,” said Rod Romanchuk, President and a Founder of SCVCC’s Scholarship Foundation.
The scholarship program has also proven to be a valuable tool in attracting and retaining employees for the private club located in San Jose, Calif.
Nestled in the foothills of the Silver Creek Valley region among magnificent oak trees, a meandering creek, wetlands, and native grass areas, the golf course was designed to coexist with the scenic natural environment. Originally designed by Ted Robinson in 1992, the Silver Creek Valley golf course was renovated by award-winning architect Mike Strantz in 2002. Silver Creek Valley Country Club is San Jose’s largest and most striking private golf and country club. Situated atop hills overlooking the golf course, lakeside waterfalls, and the Silicon Valley, the 34,000 square-foot clubhouse underwent a multi-million-dollar enhancement project in 2016. The club also features a Sports Pavilion, which includes a beautiful tennis complex, new pickleball courts, a fitness center and two swimming pools.
Silver Creek Valley Country Club is managed by Troon Privé, the private club operations division of Troon, and is a Boardroom Magazine “Distinguished Emerald Club” representing the best-of-the-best in private clubs.
