RIDGELAND, MS,… SkyCaddie’s new status as the Official Distance Measuring Device (DMD) of the Legends Tour has received instant validation after the first two events of the new season were both won by players using SkyCaddie GPS devices.
Australian Richard Green used his SkyCaddie GPS on the way to victory at the Jersey Legends 2023 event at La Moye Golf Club in early June, successfully defending the title which he won in 2022.
And former European Ryder Cup star Peter Baker – the current #1 ranked Legends Tour player – scored an emphatic win at last week’s Irish Legends tournament, using yardages from his SkyCaddie GPS during the Legends Tour tournament.
Baker, a three-time European Tour winner, said: “”I use the SkyCaddie on around 90% of the shots I hit. It is a great bit of kit, the technology in it is superb, it has got everything on it!”
The Englishman from South Staffs GC continued: “Wherever you are, carrying the bunkers, to the front, back or middle of the greens, you get a yardage and it’s instant, that’s the great thing about the SX550. You just look at it and away you go. Very good, very useful, particularly on courses where you’ve got some blind shots.
“For example, at last week’s Irish Legends tournament the 6th at Seapoint was a Par Five with a blind shot into the green. The SkyCaddie showed me how much room I had and enabled me to attack the green with confidence even though I couldn’t see it.”
Eight-time Tour winner Richard Green said: “I’ve had the SkyCaddie for a year now, after first picking it up on the Legends Tour in Europe. I think it is fantastic. SkyCaddie GPS is great for my course strategy and for making a plan of action.”
SkyCaddie’s official partnership with the Legends Tour Presented by Staysure comes after the firm spent several seasons developing behind-the-scenes relationships with both players and officials on the Tour, proving the technology at dozens of tournaments.
In 2022 SkyCaddie GPS users made up over two-thirds of the field in Legends Tour events where DMDs were permitted – scoring eight tournament wins and 14 runner-up spots along the way.
Legends Tour officials now use SkyCaddie’s ground-mapped GPS yardages to create pin sheets when setting each day’s pins, enabling competitors both to download the day’s accurate hole positions onto their SkyCaddies, and also to get a printed pin sheet for the day.
“SkyCaddie users on the Legends Tour in 2023 have won well over 500 events between them on Tour in their careers, so they know about winning” said SkyCaddie’s James Holmes.
“Picking up wins in the two consecutive tournaments after our new partnership with the Legends Tour was announced was a dream start. We congratulate both Richard and Peter on their recent victories and look forward to forming even stronger bonds with this much-loved Tour and the golfing legends who play on it!”
The Legends Tour, formerly known as the European Senior Tour and the Staysure Tour, is the most prestigious golf tour in the world to allow the use of DMDs during competitive play. The Tour is open to male competitors aged 50 and over and is run by the PGA European Tour.
