Softspikes Dominate FedEx Cup Playoffs as 28 of 30 Tour Championship Players Choose Replaceable Spikes

August 24, 2026

Brentwood, TN – Replaceable Softspikes have continued to dominate the FedExCup Playoffs, with back-to-back PGA TOUR victories in spikes and 28 of the 30 players qualifying for this week’s season-ending TOUR Championship choosing replaceable spikes over spikeless footwear.

At the BMW Championship, the winner trusted FootJoy footwear fitted with ProStinger spikes on the way to a three-shot victory and a third PGA TOUR title of the season.

After beginning the final round with a five-shot advantage, the eventual champion saw the lead disappear during a tense closing stretch before responding with birdies on each of the final three holes to finish at 17-under-par.

The result followed victory in spikes at the opening FedExCup Playoffs event and extended Softspikes’ run of PGA TOUR winning weeks to 33 consecutive weeks.

The dominance was reflected throughout the BMW Championship leaderboard, with 30 of the top 32 finishers choosing replaceable Softspikes over spikeless footwear. That trend will continue at the TOUR Championship, where 28 of the 30 players competing for the FedExCup will tee it up wearing replaceable spikes.

“The FedExCup Playoffs bring together the very best players on the PGA TOUR, so to see replaceable spikes dominate both the winner’s circle and the field is hugely significant,” said Joe Henderson, President of Softspikes. “Back-to-back Playoffs victories, 30 of the top 32 at the BMW Championship and now 28 of 30 at the TOUR Championship clearly demonstrate the trust players place in replaceable spikes when competing for one of the biggest prizes in golf.”

Softspikes also recorded victories across three further professional tours during the week. The PGA TOUR Champions winner at the Rogers Charity Classic wore FootJoy footwear fitted with Pulsar spikes, as did the winners of the Korn Ferry Tour’s AdventHealth Championship and the DP World Tour’s Nexo Championship.

With the FedExCup set to be decided this week, replaceable spikes will once again be overwhelmingly represented among the players competing for the PGA TOUR’s season-long title. A victory by a player wearing replaceable spikes at the TOUR Championship would complete an extraordinary season, with Softspikes having featured on a winner in every week of the 34-week 2026 PGA TOUR campaign.

Tour players routinely change spikes based on course conditions, but many amateur golfers overlook traction’s impact on consistency and distance. For optimal performance, golfers should replace spikes every 15 rounds.
