Brentwood, Tenn. – The conclusion of the Texas Children’s Houston Open saw the winner endure a last-minute scare before claiming a first PGA Tour title wearing his trusted Tour Flex Pro spikes in his FootJoy Premiere Series golf shoes.
After a thrilling 7-under 63 on Saturday, the Australian went into the final round at Memorial Park Golf Course with a four-shot lead. Following a flurry of birdies from his nearest challengers on the back nine on Sunday, he stood on the 72nd tee with a one-shot lead. After he pulled his tee shot into the left rough, things weren’t looking promising, but following his approach which went through the green, he managed to two-putt from 54 feet to secure his first title.
The win means it’s now 13 victories in the past 14 PGA Tour events for players wearing Softspikes. During the week a total of 82% of the field put spikes in play, with 39 of the top 46 finishers on Sunday choosing to compete in replaceable spikes over a spikeless alternative.
“It’s always gratifying to see players from the next generation get over the winning line and especially pleasing to witness them doing so harnessing the advantage that wearing replaceable spikes delivers down the stretch,” commented Joe Henderson, President, Softspikes.
On the LPGA Tour there was another victory for Tour Flex Pro, with the winner of the Ford Championship wearing the most-advanced spike in golf in her Nike golf shoes. Over on the DP World Tour at The Hero Indian Open, the young Spaniard captured his first tour title wearing Pulsar spikes in his FootJoy Traditions golf shoes. And, on the PGA Tour Champions, the victor also wore Pulsar in his FootJoy shoes to take home the Galleri Classic.
Tour players change grips and traction regularly based on course conditions, but amateur golfers rarely think about the impact wearing spikes has on consistency and distance. To achieve optimal performance benefits, golfers should be switching up their spikes every 15 rounds.
