Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course (South)

Aon Insight

The closing hole at Torrey Pines is one of the most challenging par 5’s on the PGA TOUR. The Aon insight tells us that an accurate tee shot is essential to going for the green in two. Over the last 10 years, players who find the fairway have gone for the green 42 percent of the time, a staggering 6 times more than players who miss the fairway (7.6%). This difference is statistically significant to the scoring value, as players who are able to go for the green gain just shy of half of a stroke over those who do not. Last year, players finishing in the top-10 hit the 18th fairway 60% of the time, allowing them to go for the green almost twice as much as the field.

At the end of the regular season, the most consistent player across each tour, with the lowest average score under par, on the Aon Risk Reward Challenge holes captures the $1 million prize.

Aon is committed to a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture where everyone can thrive, ensuring delivery of the best innovative solutions for clients. As such, providing equal prize money to both the PGA and LPGA Tours aligns with Aon’s core values and brand.

Aon’s Risk Reward Challenge Scoring One hole is selected at each tournament as the designated Aon Risk Reward Challenge hole for the week (hole is strategically challenging in nature). For every participating event, a player’s best two scores on the designated hole counts towards the season-long leaderboard.

The player with lowest average score under par across the regular season wins the Aon Risk Reward Challenge and will be awarded at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.
