Aledo, Texas – Split Rail Golf Club in Aledo, Texas recently welcomed Sam Brookman as general manager and Eric Davis as its new golf course superintendent. Together the two professionals have more than 35-plus years of experience in leading golf club and agronomy operations. As general manager, Brookman will lead all aspects of club operations, including golf, food and beverage, agronomy, retail, hospitality, membership, and events. Davis is responsible for the overall maintenance, management, and agronomic planning of the 18-hole, Phil Lumsden-designed golf course.
Brookman brings extensive leadership experience across public, private, resort, and residential golf environments, with a track record of operational turnaround, financial recovery, and multi-property oversight. His leadership has strengthened financial controls, improved communication with ownership, rebuilt key leadership roles, and elevated overall club performance during a critical period of growth and transition. Prior to Split Rail, Brookman served in senior leadership roles with Troon across a diverse portfolio of properties. His experience includes new course launches, ownership transitions, and complex multi-site operations, including oversight of high-revenue facilities such as Angel Park Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev. Brookman holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from University of Texas at Austin and is recognized for his hands-on leadership style, team development, and commitment to delivering a high-quality member and guest experience.
Davis brings a strong background in golf course maintenance, agronomic leadership and delivering consistent playing conditions. He has experience across private clubs, public courses, and large-scale sports facilities. In his most recent role at Shady Valley Country Club in Arlington, Texas, he directed all maintenance operations for the 18-hole course, overseeing budget management, turf health programs, regulatory compliance, and staff development. Davis’s career includes leadership roles such as director of maintenance at Big League Dreams in California and superintendent at Westridge Golf Course in McKinney, Texas. He holds a Turf Management Certification from Penn State University.
“Meaningful improvements in golf course conditions take time, planning and consistent execution,” said Jeff Thomason, Vice President of Operations, Troon. “Over the last two years, we have partnered with ownership to invest in the long-term health of the property, and the results are becoming increasingly evident. Eric’s agronomic expertise, combined with Sam’s operational leadership, has created positive momentum throughout the club and established a clear vision for the future of Split Rail Golf Club.”
Split Rail Golf Club features an 18-hole, par 72, 7,353-yard links-style course. Lumsden incorporated characteristics of the great courses in Scotland in the design of Split Rail, offering a balance of strategy and playability. The course features 419 Bermuda grass fairways, framed by bunkers and mounds of tall fescue, and Champion’s Dwarf Bermuda Greens.
