ZION CROSSROADS, Va. – Spring Creek Golf Club, the semi-private Ed Carton designed layout just minutes from Charlottesville – was recently ranked in Golf Digest’s “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses.”
Ranked No. 100, this is the ninth time Spring Creek has received this honor in its 15-year history. Spring first joined the ranking in 2011 and held its position until 2018, with its highest position being No. 55 in 2015 – 16. In 2021, Spring Creek rejoins the list after a three-year absence.
Golf Digest Architectural Editor Derek Duncan says, “there’s an admirable polish and sophistication to the holes at Spring Creek as they wind attractively through a quiet property of hardwoods and pine, with the first nine circling out broadly through undisturbed nature and the second moving out and back along the Spring Branch stream.”
Opened in 2006, the Ed Carton design rolls beneath the mountains of central Virginia along a wooded landscape. The scenic layout is measured at a robust 7,389 yards and provides a strong test of accuracy with narrow fairways, water hazards, and strategically placed bunkers. The five sets of tees make it appealing for golfers of all skill levels. Spring Creek was ranked No. 1 in Golf Pass’s “Best Courses in Virginia” as well.
“We are humbled and thrilled to have rejoined Golf Digest’s prestigious ranking of the best public courses in America,” says Kris Reinert, general manager of Spring Creek Golf Club. “The designation will only further motivate our team to create an even better experience for all visiting golfers and to make sure we become a mainstay in raters’ eyes.”
