GOOD NEWS KEEPS ROLLING AT SPRINGDALE GOLF CLUB
Princeton, New Jersey – With the New Jersey golf season in full swing, good news continues to roll out of Springdale Golf Club. Members of the historic 124-year-old club, located adjacent to the Princeton University campus, are seeing “the best course conditions in years” and experiencing a new energy at the revitalized club.
The improved course conditions are a credit to new superintendent Donovan Maguigan, who came to Springdale in December 2018 after working at Troon-affiliated Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey, and Lake of Isles in North Stonington, Connecticut.
“Since Troon Privé began managing Springdale last July, we’ve been committed to improving the overall member experience, both on and off the golf course,” said Ryan Stemsrud, general manager, Springdale Golf Club. “Donovan and our agronomy team have done a tremendous job of improving our playing surfaces; while the golf and F&B staffs have focused on social activities, the member experience and providing outstanding service.”
Brittany Ennis, Springdale’s new membership coordinator, is hearing the buzz from current and prospective members.
“This season, members are playing more golf at Springdale and enjoying their club amenities,” said Ennis. “Our food and beverage operations have been busy – up 15 percent over last year – thanks to a new menu, the creativity of Executive Chef Corey Panno and improved service offerings.”
In addition to on-course and membership improvements, Princeton University’s new, state-of-the-art Performance Center opened this spring on the practice range and is used by Princeton’s men’s and women’s golf teams, and is also available to Springdale’s membership. The club also added a new teaching professional as Princeton High graduate and current Rider University golf coach, Jason Barry joined the Springdale team.
“Springdale is amazing,” said Barry. “The facilities are great. The membership is nice, and the staff is first class. I grew up playing here, so it’s somewhat sentimental for me to return here to teach.”
On June 17th, Springdale was one of only 56 sites nation-wide to host a sectional qualifier for the 72nd U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Inverness Club. Dean Greyserman of Boca Raton, Fla., Erik Stevens of Annandale, New Jersey and Jack Wall of Brielle, New Jersey all qualified at Springdale and played in the prestigious event held last week in Toledo, Ohio. In the coming months, Springdale will host more high-profile championships, including Garden State Women’s Better Ball of Partners Championship, August 27th through 29th; and the NJSGA 61st Senior Am, September 23rd and 24th.
In 2020, Springdale Golf Club will celebrate its 125th anniversary. For more information on Springdale Golf Club, visit www.springdalegc.org.
