TENNIS ICON STAN SMITH TO SIGN BOOKS AT THE SEA PINES RESORT
Event Book Sales to Benefit the Hilton Head Boys & Girls Club
Tennis legend Stan Smith will sign his new book, “Stan Smith: Some People Think I’m a Shoe!” at a special wine and cheese event, presented by The Sea Pines Resort and the Heritage Classic Foundation, on Thursday, November 15, from 4 to 6 pm in the Heritage Room at Harbour Town Golf Links. The event is free and open to the public; guests attending the event will receive complimentary gate access from 4-6pm.
Guests will have the opportunity to purchase Smith’s keepsake coffee table book for $55 plus tax. Proceeds from the event’s book sales will benefit the Hilton Head Island Boys & Girls Club, a charity for which Smith and his wife, Margie, have been supporters. For 45 years, Smith has been an ambassador and touring professional for The Sea Pines Resort, which is home to the Smith Stearns Tennis Academy.
An iconic sneaker design, the adidas original “Stan Smith” has achieved and maintained a cult status since its debut in the early 1970s, becoming the best-selling sneaker in the brand’s history. This new book, published by Rizzoli, celebrates the cultural impact of the sneaker, which was designed and dedicated to the former number one tennis player and two-time Grand Slam singles champion.
“It’s incredible to me that my name holds such recognition beyond the sports world,” Smith said. “Many young people are unaware of my tennis career, but they love the shoe. My relationship with adidas has brought me into different worlds and cultures in a way no other brand could.”
Perfectly timed for the holiday season, the book is an ideal gift for tennis and sports fans, followers of fashion and culture, and particularly shoe lovers and historians. Autographed versions of Smith’s sneakers also will be available for sale at the event in limited quantities.
