VANCOUVER, British Columbia – At just 16 years old, Luna Lu has monday-qualified to compete in the LPGA’s CPKC Canadian Women’s Open held at the historic Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club from August 24-27. Luna secured her place in the championship after a notable performance in the final qualifier at Point Grey Golf and Country Club.
Luna’s achievements on the golf course have drawn significant attention as she is just entering the 11th grade at Burnaby North Secondary School next month. Luna shot an impressive one-under 71 (-1) during the qualifiers and clinched one of the four final spots for the Open, tying for 3rd in the qualifier. Luna will now compete against 156 players, including LPGA Tour pros like Brooke Henderson, Maddie Szeryk, and Alena Sharp.
SuperSpeed Golf’s swing tools and system have been instrumental in helping her gain speed and distance on the course. Combined with a robust physical training program from trainer Jason Glass, the SuperSpeed Team helped Luna gain significant speed and distance. By utilizing 3D Force Plates to identify opportunities for more speed in how she pushes with her lead leg and targeted drills, Luna was able to increase her lead leg vertical force by 30% and the timing of this force earlier in her downswing along with increasing her rotational torque by 20%. This led to an increase of her driver club-head speed from 92.7 mph to 98 mph, approximately 4 mph faster than the average LPGA player at just 15 years old.

“Luna’s talent and dedication to the game are truly admirable,” said Mike Napoleon, President of SuperSpeed Golf. “We are thrilled to see her qualify for her national tournament and can’t wait to not only watch her this week, but as she continues to improve and work on all facets of her game, especially the speed and distance strides she is making with us at SuperSpeed Golf.”
The CPKC Canadian Women’s Open returns to British Columbia for the first time since 2015, with a purse of $2.35 million. The event offers participants an incredible opportunity, not only because of its rich history and a stellar lineup but also as the last chance for players to qualify for the United States Solheim Cup team.
