Renovations in Full Swing at Swenson Park Golf Course

Stockton, California — Swenson Park Golf Course is pleased to announce the near completion of its renovation and capital improvement projects. Owned by the City of Stockton and operated by KemperSports, during the course of the past year the facility renovated the snack bar into The Fox Den Restaurant, obtained a new cart fleet, completed driving range improvements and currently finishing a new outside patio and upgraded restrooms.
“We are thrilled with the improvements,” said, Joe Smith, PGA General Manager, “We are already getting positive comments from our customer surveys.”
Smith reported that they completed the driving range project. Re-opening in early January, the range now offers 12 hitting stalls with both fairway and Turf Hound hitting mats as well as new range balls.
The nearly finished new patio will provide additional seating for up to 150 guests. With this addition, the course will seek to attract larger banquet groups now for golf tournaments, teams’ awards, fundraisers and other social events in the community.
Smith who has been with the property for six years as the Head Golf Professional and Sales & Marketing Director, was promoted in December 2019 to the role of General Manager. Prior to this promotion, Smith was recognized in 2017 and 2018 by both KemperSports and the San Joaquin Valley Chapter of the PGA for developing a thriving junior golf program at Swenson Park.
Smith now oversees all daily operations of facility including the Golf Course (Oak Course and Magnolia 9- Hole Executive) as well as the food and beverage department. Smith also hopes to grow their already popular Disc Golf and FootGolf programming to appeal to more families and non-golfers.
“I’m excited about the future,” said Smith. “We have a lot of things now to offer the community of Stockton.” Swenson Park is set to host a Community Day in Spring 2020 to celebrate the grand reopening and completed renovations.
