HARTFORD – SwingU, the sports technology and media company, would like to congratulate SwingU Versus Ambassadors Ben Carr and Bryce Lewis on being named to the preseason watch list for the 2023 Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel.
The Haskins Award is awarded annually to the most outstanding men’s college golfer, as voted on by players, coaches and media members. Past winners of the Haskins Award include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Ben Crenshaw.
Carr, a fifth-year senior at Georgia Southern who started using SwingU Versus in December 2021 to track his stats and guide his practice sessions, finished runner-up in last month’s United States Amateur and is currently the 54th-ranked player in the World Amateur Golf Rankings
“I definitely like the strokes gained aspect of (SwingU); that’s the biggest thing I focus on,” Carr said. “Just seeing myself improve, especially putting and around the greens, puts a smile on my face.
“Being able to track that and have that knowledge at your fingertips, it shows you where you’re struggling and where you’re excelling, and you go from there to get better.”
A three-time winner at Georgia Southern as well as the 2021 Southeastern Amateur champion, Ben has been an All-Sun Belt performer three of the last four seasons. He was a 2021-22 PING All-America Honorable Mention and he was named as one of 15 finalists for the 2022 Fred Haskins Award.
Lewis, a redshirt-senior at the University of Tennessee who started using SwingU Versus in August 2021 to track his stats and guide his practice sessions, advanced to the Round of 32 at the United States Amateur last month and is currently the 34th-ranked player in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
“SwingU being able to provide me with a bird’s eye view of the golf course before events get started is really, really important,” Lewis said. “I know what I need to do off the tee and coming into greens, so that helps my preparation for the week.
“It’s really, really helpful and kind of like a little cheat code, to be honest.”
The 2022 Sunnehanna Amateur champion, Bryce was a 2022 All-SEC Second Team selection as well as a 2020-21 PING All-Southeast Region performer at UT.
Since the start of 2021, more than 100 active professional and top-tier collegiate golfers are using the SwingU App and Versus platform to track their strokes gained and game-improvement data.
