Athlone, Ireland – For the first time ever on Irish soil, Team USA has won and retained the International King’s Cup with an 86 point victory over Team Ireland, After two days of intermittent rain, 16 singles matches were contested on a blustery, but generally dry day. Going into the day with a 56 point deficit, Team Ireland only needed to win 10% of the 576 points available to even the contest. However, the Americans dominated the day with several lopsided wins. Foremost and certainly the MVPs of the match were the Senior A team of Curt Faas, Litchfield, IL, and Wayne Franklin, Abilene, TX, who contributed 42 net points to the winning side over the course of the three days.
The 6th International King’s Cup will be back at Glasson Golf Club in late May 2022. Qualifying is underway for the 7th USGC King’s Cup National Championship, October 11-13 at the Hermitage in Nashville, TN. There Team USA 2022 will be selected from the 4 flights in both the Open and Senior Divisions.
