Los Angeles, CA – March is Women’s History Month and TGA Premier Sports (Teach Grow Achieve) honors this opportunity to recognize the women in their organization, the young ladies who participate in programming, families that support them, and all those who have come before, are working today, and future advocates promoting women in sports.
As the nation’s leading provider of in-school and community-based youth sports enrichment programs TGA is privileged to acknowledge nearly a dozen female franchise owners, countless coaches from California to New York, and COO Laura Sappington.
“Being part of an organization that has the ability to shape a young person’s life through sports is beyond inspiring; however, being able to empower young women through our programming is truly remarkable. My success would not have been possible without the support and mentorship that I received from strong female leadership. Women supporting women is a powerful force, and I am proud to even be a small part of driving that force with TGA and all of our participants.”
TGA owner Alex Tegels in Hennepin, MN, accredits her many female role models growing up for her love of sports and cherishes having her own opportunities to do the same for her students.
“I was so lucky to have great female role models to learn from and play golf with growing up. My grandma and I had a lady’s day every week in the summer at the golf course. While it certainly didn’t start out that I wanted to play golf – I may have been more interested in the donut I got to nibble on while riding around in the cart. But that early weekly exposure to the golf course really got me excited to play the game,” shared Tegels. “I love being that strong, female role model for girls in our programs, it’s nice to be able to give back to a game that has given me so much.”
The Michigan chapter, one of the largest in TGA, welcomes 4,000 students annually and last fall, had an astonishing 26 young ladies compete in the Michigan Girls State Championships. The third-place finisher, Lauren Timpf, is not only a former TGA camper but now a TGA coach and mentor for the younger generation. (Article recently published on Golf.com)
TGA is also proud to be a corporate supporter of the Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF) in 2021. The WSF exists to enable girls and women to reach their potential in sport and life. Founded in 1974, the Foundation strengthens and expands participation and leadership opportunities through research, advocacy, community programming and a wide variety of collaborative partnerships.
