Former Wake Forest golfer and TGA Golf ambassador Monday qualifies for his first PGA Tour event
New York, NY – TGA Sports ambassador Danny Guise has qualified for this week’s Sony Open in Hawaii. The 27-year-old former Wake Forest University golfer shot 4-under (68) at Hoakalei CC then survived a 9-for-1 playoff to earn his first career PGA Tour start.
An inspiration for youth playing golf or any sport, Guise has exemplified a golfer paying his dues the past six years, as he passionately chased his dream to qualify for the PGA Tour. His dedication and hard work will be on display this week at Waialae CC in Honolulu.
Golf has been a true family affair with the Guises. Parents Joe and Debbie set a foundation and pathway for Danny to achieve his dream. Danny began playing at a young age in large part due to Joe, who helped develop drills and games to improve Danny’s skills. That led him to an amazing junior golf career (55 wins) and college career at Wake Forest. Today, Joe continues helping youth with drills and games, and is also a golf coach and assistant director for one of TGA’s top golf franchises in Southern Westchester (NY) and Fairfield (CT) counties.
“This has been 20 years in the making with Danny and we couldn’t be more proud of him and what he has accomplished this week,” says Joe. “The way the schedule shaped out with the Korn Ferry Tour this month, we decided to try the Monday Qualifier in Hawaii. Debbie and I haven’t been here since our honeymoon 31 years ago, and thought we should go back with Danny, and if he doesn’t qualify, we stay another week on vacation and play more golf. Now he’s getting to compete, and we get to walk alongside and be part of his dream — and on a second honeymoon. It’s truly a dream come true for our family.”
In his sophomore season at Wake Forest, Danny finished second in team scoring average (to Will Zalatoris) in 2014-15. He’s also made three career Korn Ferry Tour starts and has conditional status in 2023 after advancing to Final Stage of Q-School.
“We are so happy and thrilled for Danny to finally reach one of his many goals as a professional golfer,” said Adam Geisler, CEO of Youth Athletes United. “He has been the perfect TGA Sports ambassador and role model for our kids — an inspiration for all of our athletes to look up to and learn about how hard work, dedication, and believing in yourself can help you accomplish anything. Congratulations, Danny!”
