Pleasanton’s premier private club moving ahead with plans to renovate its historic clubhouse and build a new sports center
Pleasanton, Calif. – The Club at Castlewood in Pleasanton, Calif. has announced that the Alameda County Planning Department has approved plans for the Club’s multimillion-dollar renovation and enhancement project in advance of the County Building Department’s formal review.
Prior to the Planning Department’s decision, the County’s Building and Health departments have also reviewed Castlewood’s plans and submitted comments — regarded as positive steps toward an anticipated approval.
Construction is expected to be underway in April as part of a comprehensive effort to refresh, renovate and add new facilities and amenities to the Club’s property in the hills above Pleasanton. Enhancements will include a lobby with more internal open space, new and extended indoor and outdoor dining and social areas, a new state-of-the-art fitness and wellness center, a new pool, a new Sports Center featuring a bar and grill with outdoor seating serving the Club’s pool, tennis and bocce facilities, and more.
“Our next steps include updating and finalizing our plans and budget to incorporate all of the comments from the various County departments and prepare for construction as we await the County Building department’s final approval,” stated Club President Rick Barraza. “The excitement is building within the membership with construction set to begin next month on our remodel project that is creating new and attractive amenities that will enhance the membership experience of our Members and their families”
Castlewood recently shared a virtual walkthrough of the new Sports Center on the Club’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljH4r05ZJks
The Club recently changed its name from Castlewood Country Club to “more accurately reflect the active, family-forward lifestyle characterized by quality experiences, engaging activities, and the modern amenities our Members will enjoy,” Barraza said.
The Club at Castlewood is managed by Troon Privé, the private club operating division of Troon. Members of Troon Privé Clubs receive exclusive access to extraordinary golf and lifestyle benefits throughout the world.
About The Club at Castlewood
Castlewood is well-known for its two championship 18-hole golf courses — Hill and Valley — and rich tradition of accomplishments and achievements in local, regional and statewide golfing history. Castlewood also has a well-regarded Cliff Drysdale Tennis racquet program featuring tennis and pickleball, a recreational family swimming pool, bocce and a competitive aquatics team program, among many other activities.
Founded nearly 100 years ago, The Club at Castlewood’s roots go back to the historic Hacienda del Pozo de Verona estate created by George and Phoebe Hearst, parents of publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst. The estate was purchased in 1924 by local businessmen, and the mansion served as the clubhouse for the original Castlewood Country Club.
