One Of The East Bay’s Premier Private Clubs Will Now Be Known As The Club at Castlewood
Pleasanton, Calif. – Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton, Calif., a prestigious private club located in the hills west of Pleasanton, is bringing significant new enhancements and improvements to its clubhouse and is creating a new Sports Center, which together with a number of other new features, services and amenities, will provide its members with a refreshing new membership experience. Reflecting these upgrades, the Club has evolved its name to “The Club at Castlewood.”
The comprehensive multi-million-dollar Castlewood Remodel Project will commence in Spring 2021. Central to the project is a renovation of the main clubhouse, originally designed and built by George and Phoebe Hearst as the Hacienda del Pozo de Verona estate. Enhancements will include more internal open space, new and extended indoor and outdoor dining and social areas, new fitness and wellness resources, and more.
“We are very excited to be embarking on this major remodel of our historic Club which will provide Castlewood Members with a modern, wholly-enriching lifestyle experience,” stated Club President Rick Barraza. “The Castlewood name itself is steeped in history, hosts our traditions and is home to the memories we all create together. ‘The Club at Castlewood’ more accurately reflects the active, family-forward lifestyle characterized by quality experiences, engaging activities, and the modern amenities our Members will enjoy.”
The Club at Castlewood is managed by Troon Privé, the private club operating division of Troon. Members of Troon Privé Clubs receive exclusive access to extraordinary golf and lifestyle benefits throughout the world.
“Beginning with our heritage as Phoebe Hearst’s visionary architectural achievement, our identity has been shaped by the generations of staff, Members and guests who have walked these halls and evolved our Club into what it is today,” added Club General Manager John Vest. “We believe ‘The Club at Castlewood’ represents a refresh in what we offer to our community, a renewed spirit of inclusivity with a sense of place.”
Castlewood is well-known for its two championship 18-hole golf courses — Hill and Valley — and rich tradition of accomplishments and achievements in local, regional and statewide golfing history. Castlewood also has a highly-regarded Cliff Drysdale Tennis racquet program featuring tennis and pickleball, a recreational family swimming pool, bocce and a competitive aquatics team program, among many other activities.
Culinary offerings include seasonal menus created around local farm-to-table items and an outstanding wine culture. Castlewood Members enjoy a full calendar of social activities and events for all ages. Castlewood is also the perfect venue, with soaring ballroom ceilings and picturesque views, to host private events for up to 350 people.
About The Club at Castlewood
Founded nearly 100 years ago, The Club at Castlewood’s roots go back to the historic Hacienda del Pozo de Verona estate created by George and Phoebe Hearst, parents of publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst. The estate was purchased in 1924 by local businessmen, and the mansion served as the clubhouse for the original Castlewood Country Club. The new club was immediately known for a superior private golf experience and was frequently played by Bobby Jones and other golfers of this era, and stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood were often in attendance.
Castlewood is ideally situated in the beautiful hills west of Pleasanton with picturesque views of the Tri-Valley. The Club at Castlewood is currently offering memberships to individuals and families looking for a private club that offers its Members a welcoming and all-encompassing lifestyle experience.
