Santa Rosa, Calif. – The Fountaingrove Club in Santa Rosa, Calif. recently broke ground on a new $16.5 million clubhouse. The new 22,100 square-foot building replaces the club’s former clubhouse that was destroyed by the Tubbs Fire in October 2017. BAR Architects of San Francisco is the clubhouse architect, while BHM Construction of Napa is the general contractor. The estimated completion date is October 2021.
Set on the same location as the previous clubhouse, the new two-story building embraces wine country ease with understated elegance, while seamlessly integrating indoor activities with outdoor spaces. The design features natural materials including stone, wood, glass and steel. The open and expansive plan provides flexibility for future events and showcases the natural beauty of the area.
“On October 9, 2017 the Tubbs wildfire swept through The Fountaingrove community, completely destroying 1700 homes and the Club’s 30 year-old clubhouse,” said Fountaingrove Club Board President Marshall Andrew. “As a Club and community we got together to set a strategy to rebuild our clubhouse and other facilities destroyed by the fire. Utilizing member surveys and focus groups, our club of the future was designed in concept to meet current member needs and attract new members. Working through our Club Steering Committee we selected our pre-construction contractor and architects to begin the design. We then reached out to Troon, our management company, to utilize their expertise from projects they’ve completed to assist with the final design. Once the design was completed and approved we went out to bid and selected the contractor for the actual construction.
Over the past 2 ½ years we’ve been able to keep our membership at the same levels as it was prior to the fire. This member support has been created by our motto ’to deliver on the promise’ of a new and futuristic clubhouse. The member excitement to see shovels in the ground is the next step in completing our vision.”
The lower level of the clubhouse will feature the golf shop, office space, meeting space as well as men’s and women’s locker rooms. The upper level includes a large kitchen designed to support a newly conceptualized menu with efficiently planned prep, cook and storage areas; a meeting room; two dining venues; and two outdoor dining terraces.
“The design encourages use throughout the day, intended to be both a home away from home and flexible work place for members and their guests,” said Jeff Goodwin, principal, BAR Architects. “The building design embraces families and users of diverse interests as a foundational principle towards building a strong and vibrant community.”
Located in the hills northeast of Santa Rosa, The Fountaingrove Club continues to experience a revitalization following the Tubbs Fire of October 2017, which destroyed 5,643 structures in Santa Rosa including Fountaingrove’s clubhouse and maintenance facility. The Fountaingrove Club features a beautiful Ted Robinson Sr.-designed golf course that boasts spectacular views of the Hood and Taylor Mountains as well as the rolling hills of Santa Rosa Valley. The golf course was spared from the Tubbs Fire and has remained fully operational, hosting member play and numerous tournaments. The Club’s Athletic Center complex features five tennis courts and a 25-yard infinity swimming pool. Members also enjoy an impressive array of fitness opportunities including martial arts, yoga, aquatics, personal training, spin and strength training.
The Fountaingrove Club is member-owned and is managed by Troon Privé, the private club operations division of Troon. For more information on The Fountaingrove Club, visit www.thefountaingroveclub.com.
