THE SALLY MOVES TO A NEW CALENDAR SLOT
America’s longest-held same-site golf tournament gets aligned with university calendars
At the awards ceremony following the 93rd Women’s South Atlantic Amateur Golf Tournament (The Sally), Chuck Grant, Tournament Chairman, announced a new permanent calendar slot for the annual event. “In cooperation with the other events on the Orange Blossom Tour, we are pleased to announce The Sally will be permanently moved to the first full week in January, with the 2020 tournament occurring January 6-11.” This earlier date will help ensure the best college and amateur talent will be competing as The Sally approaches its 100th anniversary in 2026. Grant said, “Changing the date to the first full week in January was a critical step as this event delivers important World Amateur Golf Ranking points to its participants and the best players need to know they can reliably participate.”
Hosted at Oceanside Country Club since 1926, The Sally is America’s longest-running golf tournament still held at its original site. On January 19, the club closed the books on the 93rd Sally where Florida State’s Amanda Doherty shot a final round 69 to beat Alexa Pano by three strokes, taking home the championship with a four round total of 288. Doherty fought off an international field of top amateur and collegiate golfers on a beautiful finishing day.
