Maui, Hawaii – For the 26th consecutive year, The Plantation Course at Kapalua will host the PGA TOUR’s best when The Sentry returns to Maui January 4-7, 2024. The annual event has generated more than $8.5 million for Maui charities since 1999 and showcases the beauty and Aloha of Maui and Kapalua to millions around the world.
Located in West Maui, the golf courses and facilities at Kapalua Golf were spared from the devastating fires of August 8. However, nearly 1/3 of Kapalua Golf’s employees lost their homes and possessions on that tragic day. Many have returned to work, while living in hotel rooms and waiting on more permanent housing options.
“In the four-plus months since, Kapalua Golf, our ownership and Troon, have continued to support our associates and the community throughout the recovery process. Healing has begun, and along with the excitement that The Sentry brings, it keeps a global spotlight on Maui’s important recovery efforts,” said Kapalua Golf & Tennis General Manager Alex Nakajima.
For those traveling to Maui for the tournament or for vacation, Kapalua Golf and The Sentry kindly remind visitors to bring care, patience, and compassion when they travel, while being considerate and respectful to residents.
“As part of Mauiʻs recovery process, we need our visitors to help keep our community employed. We welcome respectful, responsible and compassionate travel to all accessible parts of Maui. We encourage our visitors to buy local, dine at local restaurants, enjoy Mauiʻs incredible activities and attractions including our beautiful golf courses, and most of all visit our island with patience and grace,” said Sherry Duong, Executive Director, Maui Visitors & Convention Bureau.
The Plantation Course at Kapalua is open year-round to resort guests and daily-fee play. The perennial Top 100, Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw-designed golf course underwent a well-documented restoration in 2019, which focused on recapturing the essence and playing characteristics of the (then) nearly three decade-old course.
