Traveling Golfer Television Show Leads the TL Golf Services Award Parade
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – For the fourth time in five years the Traveling Golfer television show, hosted by Tony Leodora, hit the jackpot.
The show was judged to be the No. 1 Golf Television Show in America by the International Network of Golf and the award was presented at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando.
Wednesday, in a packed ING meeting room at the PGA Show, the Traveling Golfer show received the award from among a record number of entries in the highly competitive category. The Traveling Golfer show prevailed after submitting the show it did from Jacksonville Beach in Florida. Eddie Caiazzo was the producer/director on that show … his first solo effort after studying under the mentorship of Chief Producer Jamie McWilliams.
“Jacksonville Beach was a very nice location but it didn’t have the natural charisma of a site such as Pebble Beach or Pinehurst,” explained Leodora. “We had to craft a story about the location throughout the show. Eddie did a great job of augmenting the story with some spectacular video.
“While the Jacksonville Beach show was the one submitted for the award, any number of the shows from 2019 could have won. We did spectacular shows from Sebring, Florida; Frederick, Maryland; Chateau Elan in Georgia; Barefoot Resort; The Ed Shearon Golf Trail; Jack Frost National; Williamsburg, Virginia; Clay County, Florida; Delaware County, Pennsylvania; the Mystical Courses in Myrtle Beach and Pinehurst.”
McWilliams also earned a first place award in the Internet Content category, for the feature piece he produced on the Antigua apparel company and its fast rise to success in the women’s golf market.
“It’s quite amazing to win two first place awards,” said ING Executive Director Mike Jamison. “This was, by far, the most entrees we ever had for the media awards.”
The two television awards were joined by two more awards under the TL Golf Services banner, the umbrella company over a number of golf promotion efforts.
Leodora, Philadelphia editor of GolfStyles Magazine, won an Outstanding Achievement Award in the Business Writing category. His feature story – “Adapt or Die, the Story of the Modern Country Club” – appeared in the Spring issue of GolfStyles and chronicled the many adaptive efforts aimed at aiding the survival of today’s private clubs.
From the syndicated GolfTalk Live radio show, an interview discussing golf and baseball with Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt won an Outstanding Achievement award in the Radio Segment category. GolfTalk Live airs on a number of stations in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware area.
The Traveling Golfer airs as a scheduled weekly feature show on NBC Sports and NBC Sports + throughout four markets in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. NBC Sports airings are 10:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sundays, 11:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and 11 a.m. on Thursdays. NBC Sports + airs the show at 8 p.m. Mondays and Fridays. And, now, the show also airs nationally, every day, on the new Fun Roads Network (funroads.tv/schedule) – in the San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and Wichita markets.
Responding to golfers’ never-ending demands to learn more about interesting golf courses and golf resorts across the country and around the world, well-traveled host Tony Leodora created the Traveling Golfer in February of 2013 so he could take viewers on video trips to some of the most exciting golf locations.
The Traveling Golfer is a series of monthly shows hosted by Leodora, who has 19 years of experience in televised golf. The featured destination stays on the website for one month, before being replaced by a new show. The old shows are archived for continued viewing on home website, www.travelinggolfervideo.com.
