It was a Sunday for the ages for Bernhard Langer and his golf equipment sponsor Tour Edge at the 43rd U.S. Senior Open in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
Their ageless staff player won for the 46th time on the PGA TOUR Champions, setting the record for all-time victories, picking up his 14th major championship trophy and breaking his own record as the oldest PGA TOUR winner at 65 years, 10 months and 5 days.
Langer has now surpassed Hale Irwin’s 16-year-old record of 45 PGA TOUR Champions titles and set a new standard that will last for many moons to come.
“Never thought it would happen at a U.S. Senior Open, but I’m very thrilled that the record of 46 wins happened this week,” said Langer. “It’s certainly one of the greatest tournaments we ever compete in, and to beat this field, where everybody was here, especially Stricker and Kelly on their home grounds, is a very special feeling.”
Langer’s dominant 7-under par performance at one of the toughest course setups on the 50-and-over tour cemented his place in history. He efficiently battled the USGA rough-and-tough U.S Open setup at SentryWorld Golf Course.
One of the major keys to victory for Langer was his iron play. He led the field in Greens in Regulation with his Tour Edge Exotics forged irons and wedges, including the prototype BL forged iron that he collaborated on with Tour Edge master club designer David Glod.
“We all just witnessed one of the most epic golf achievements in history, something I don’t think will ever be bested,” said Glod. “Mr. Langer is such a joy to work with, the absolute consummate professional, and no one is harder working. He has set a standard of excellence on and off the course and we are extremely proud to call him a Tour Edge ambassador and staff player.”
Langer moved up to No. 2 in the season-long Charles Schwab Cup standings with his second victory of 2023 at the all-important major championship.
“I have my mother that’s going to be 100 on August 4th, so I think I have good genes,” Langer said. “Hopefully, I’ll be around a few more years.”
The win is the 23rd for Tour Edge clubs in play since the company started working full-time with Champions tour players in 2018.
Tour Edge has seen more than 4,000 clubs played by over 165 different PGA Tour professionals on the three PGA Tours over the last five seasons.
With the victory this week, the brand has been on a meteoric rise with 23 victories and 38 runner-up finishes on PGA TOUR Champions since they started servicing the tour full-time.
That gives Exotics clubs 61 combined 1st place and runner-up finishes in the last 128 Champions events played (47% of all Champions events in that time span).
