Scott McCarron Scores another Top 5 Finish Playing Tour Edge Exotics in Newport Beach
Duffy Waldorf Puts New Exotics EXS Driver into Play this week
Tour Edge Exotics staff player Scott McCarron finished 3rd at the Hoag Classic on the PGA Tour Champions Sunday after shooting rounds of 64-72-68.
The recently re-named Hoag Classic (formerly Toshiba) was played for the 24th straight year at Newport Beach Country Club in Newport Beach, Calif.
The Top 5 finish was the third in five events for McCarron. He is currently playing an 18-degree Exotics CBX 119 hybrid in a Project X Even Flow Black shaft, the same shaft that is available to consumers as a stock offering in the CBX 119 line.
McCarron, who wears a Tour Edge Exotics logo on his sleeve, finished in 3rd place at 9-under-par in windy conditions.
He played his CBX 119 hybrid to perfection on his second shot on the 18th hole Par 5 Sunday from 230 yards away. The ball landed 25 feet away to set up an eagle putt that could have secured the win and the subsequent missed birdie putt that would have sent him to the playoff at 10-under-par.
McCarron climbed two spots to 5th place on the official money list after earning $118,800 for the tied for 3rd place finish. He finished 2nd overall in the final Charles Schwab Cup standings last season after winning two times with Exotics in the bag in 2018.
McCarron finished runner-up at the previous PGA Tour Champions event, the Cologuard Classic. It was the 11th runner-up finish for a Champions player using Exotics golf clubs in the past year. Exotics clubs have now finished 1st or 2nd in 18 of last 30 PGA TOUR Champions events (60%).
“Another great finish by the great Scotty McCarron on tour this week and thanks to him, he had a ton of TV coverage with our logo and with big shots with our golf club,” said founder and President of Tour Edge, David Glod. “One of the biggest things to happen for Tour Edge this week was that another Exotics EXS Driver has been put into play tour, this time with our staff player Duffy Waldorf. We had a great EXS Driver fitting with Duffy on Thursday and the driver went into play Friday. This is big news when a new driver gets into play for us as it further validates that no one comes close to offering a tour-premium driver like EXS for the price.”
The Trackman numbers from the driver fitting on the practice range at Newport Country Club showed that Waldorf gained 7 yards carry distance over his previous driver with the Exotics EXS Driver, yet with the same spin numbers, more ball speed and a more true to spec launch angle.
Waldorf is now playing an EXS 10.5-degree Driver in the N-position to bring the loft to 9.5 degrees. He is playing it with a Mitsubishi Tensei CK Pro White 70 X shaft. In tough conditions, Waldorf averaged 78.57% after averaging 92.86% accuracy for Saturday’s round. He went into the event averaging 72.02%, ranking him 26th on the tour in 2019.
He is also playing an Exotics CBX 13.5-degree 3-wood and a 17-degree CBX hybrid with a Fujikura Atmos 8 Blue shaft. He is wearing a Tour Edge Exotics hat and shirt and carrying the Exotics CBX 119 bag this season.
After five events on the 2019 PGA Tour Champions season, Exotics CBX metal woods have been in play for one victory (Tom Lehman in the season-opening Hawaii event), four Top 5, eight Top 10 finishes and 17 Top 25 finishes. Tour Edge is keeping count of these tour statistics on a scoreboard on www.touredge.com.
Of the Exotics staffers, Lehman currently ranks 3rd on the Charles Schwab Cup Money List, while McCarron ranks 5th. Tim Petrovic, Waldrof and Exotics staffer Bart Bryant all rank in the Top 50 on the money list, while Exotics staffer Scott Dunlap has not played yet in 2019 due to injury.
According to the Darrell Survey, 51 Exotics CBX fairway woods and hybrids have been put into play by 12 different players on the PGA Tour Champions over the first five events of the 2019. In total, over 60 different players have played over 400 Exotics clubs on the PGA Tours in the past year.
This PGA Tour Champions takes a two week break before heading to Biloxi, Mississippi for the 2019 Rapiscan Systems Classic at Fallen Oak on March 29.
