New turfs, revamped design led by Hall of Fame Golfer Lanny Wadkins
MCKINNEY, TX. — Invited, the worldwide leader in private clubs, is proud to announce the completion of a comprehensive reinvestment project at TPC Craig Ranch, the home of the PGA TOUR’s The CJ Cup Byron Nelson. The course reopened to members on Dec. 12, 2025, and it will be ready to host the game’s top golfers during tournament week May 18-24, 2026.
The $25 million renovation ensures the revamped course design offers an elevated venue with premium conditions, giving the world’s best players a more formidable test, while protecting the playability for members based on key investments in turf agronomy. Led by Hall of Fame golf legend Lanny Wadkins, the greens, tees, fairways and rough were outfitted with new grass varieties, complementing the various changes throughout the course.
“This was an exciting challenge as we sought to transform TPC Craig Ranch into a course that better tested the best golfers in the world, but also sought to preserve the playability for our members, and I believe we achieved that,” said Wadkins. “By shifting around some of the green complexes, we were able to keep many of the holes relatively the same, but we are going to require golfers to change their shot quality since greens will be smaller and bunkers will be tighter. This will put a premium on precision, requiring accurate approach shots from players of all skill levels.”
Stadium Zoysia was installed throughout all fairways, increasing course flexibility and enhancing greenside collars and approaches. The roughs and tees were upgraded with TifTuf Bermuda, celebrated for its exceptional durability and lush, vibrant look. The greens were transitioned to 777 Bentgrass for speed, consistency and smoothness in addition to its properties of disease resistance and year-round performance.
Wadkins and his team also worked to modify several holes throughout the course. The green on the par four third hole, for example, shifted closer to Rowlett Creek along with an added waste bunker, putting more approach shots in peril for golfers. The par five fifth hole has been extended to 624 yards and now features Hell’s Full Acre, a massive waste bunker dividing landing zones from the green. These holes reflect the larger effort to redesign and reposition bunkers and reshape greens in order to improve the strategy of play, expand pin placement options and enhance drainage and aesthetics.
Additionally, renovation work delivered an updated drainage plan and irrigation system to better move water off the course, increasing playability and reducing cart-path only days. A more efficient pump station was installed to replace the existing two-decades-old system, and 2,000 new sprinkler heads were installed to maximize watering protocols and ensure consistent conditions throughout the hot summers and harsh winters of Texas.
Renovations kicked off in May, immediately after World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler’s record-setting 31-under par victory in this year’s THE CJ Cup Byron Nelson, marking the beginning of a project that was completed in just seven months, ensuring it can not only host, but test the world’s best golfers in 2026.
“It’s an honor to be home to one of the best stops on the PGA TOUR, and these renovations will be sure to deliver a true, yet tough challenge to the tournament field,” said Mike Kiesling, general manager of TPC Craig Ranch. “However, equally as important was making sure our course was a venue that our members would love to play week in and week out, and it’s a testament to Lanny Wadkins and his team that they have delivered just that. Our members and their guests will find this revamped golf course as one that is playable, enjoyable and, yes, formidable.”
