The Northern California PGA Foundation has announced that its signature fundraising event in 2019, The Langley: A Tribute to Legends Charity Pro-Am Golf Tournament, raised a record $280,000 in support of PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) golf programming for Veterans. The 12th annual event, sponsored by CIG Insurance Group, took place August 12th & 13th at Pebble Beach Resorts and honored 2-time Major Champion, Mark O’Meara, and real estate magnate, philanthropist and former San Francisco Giants owner, Bob Lurie.
Supported by presenting sponsors, including AON, Willis Re and Full Turn Direct, along with PGA HOPE partners that included NBC Bay Area, NBC Sports Bay Area, Northern California Toyota Dealers, Chevron Corporation and United Airlines, Peter Jacobsen, past honoree and host of The Langley, led the celebration and fundraising success at The Beach Club at Pebble Beach backed by 240 supporters of the event and Veterans from PGA HOPE.
Proceeds from The Langley each year support the Northern California PGA Foundation’s military pillar, PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere), the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America. In collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs, PGA HOPE introduces golf to Veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. Golf sessions are offered at NO cost to Veterans by Northern California PGA Professionals. Learning and playing the game of golf is a proven activity that has helped thousands of military Veterans assimilate back into their community through the social interaction the game of golf provides.
“This year, The Langley shattered our fundraising record, bringing in $280,000 for PGA HOPE Veterans golf programs,” said Nancy Maul, Executive Director, Northern California PGA Foundation. “Thanks to our title sponsor, CIG, along with our presenting sponsors, partners and participating players, The Langley becomes better each year and allows the Northern California PGA Foundation, under the direction of our PGA Professionals, to continue impacting the lives of military Veterans.”
Maul adds, “Highlighting the $280,000 generated from the event, which came largely from auction proceeds, were significant contributions from both Honorees. The Lurie’s donated $50,000 and Mark O’Meara auctioned off a private stay and golf at his home for 4, which went for $50,000 as well. We cannot thank Bob and Mark enough for their commitment to The Langley and their generous donations.”
The Langley: A Tribute to Legends Charity Pro-Am, provides an intimate golf experience like no other. Guests enjoyed a two-day event, starting with “An Evening with Golf’s Legends” on Monday, August 12th at The Beach Club next to Stillwater Cove, where attendees had a meet and greet with the honorees. On Tuesday, August 13th guests were treated to The Langley Charity Pro-Am tournament held at Pebble Beach Golf Links, followed by an awards luncheon for players, honorees and Langley family members.
“We are proud to have been a part of The Langley Tournament for more than a decade,” said CIG President & CEO Arne Chatterton. “CIG is committed to not only golf and its players, but also to protecting and restoring communities across the western United States. PGA HOPE is a cause that wholeheartedly fulfills our mission of giving back, and the record-breaking results from this year’s Langley Tournament will change the lives of so many of those who serve and protect us and we thank everyone who made this possible.”
Named after former PGA Head Professional Jim Langley of Cypress Point Club, The Langley is the NCPGA Foundation’s premier charitable fundraising event designed to honor the game’s legends, and supports the mission of the Foundation – serving Veterans, community and growing the game of golf. Langley was admired world-wide for his generosity and humble nature, and is the epitome of what this event is about. Jim was a UC Berkeley alumni, four-sport athlete, and member of Cal’s famous 1959 Champion basketball team, and he also proudly served in the US Marine Corps.
