Gift assists GCSAA members affected by natural disasters or COVID
Lawrence, Kan. — Turfco, through its Torrent 2 Giveaway during the 2021 Virtual Golf Industry Show, has raised $5,000 for the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America’s Disaster Relief Fund. The donation will help GCSAA to provide immediate financial assistance to its members who have suffered personal loss from natural disaster or COVID-19.
As part of the Torrent 2 Giveaway at the virtual 2021 Golf Industry Show, Turfco donated $25 to the Disaster Relief Fund for every entry into the contest up to 250 entries.
“Turfco and the Kinkead family have been a part of this industry for more than 100 years, and we are committed to supporting those in it who need help,” said Turfco Executive Vice President Scott Kinkead. “It’s been a difficult time for many, and we are proud to work with GCSAA to provide financial relief to members in need.”
In 2006, in reaction to Hurricane Katrina, GCSAA established the Disaster Relief Fund to assist GCSAA members who suffered personal loss. The fund has continued to be a resource for members who face tragedy caused by natural disasters, and in 2020 those affected by COVID-19 also became eligible to receive relief funds.
“Turfco has been a longtime supporter of GCSAA and our members, and this latest gift is further support of that, GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans said. “We thank Turfco for their generosity and willingness to assist our members when they need it the most.”
This donation elevates Turfco to the Platinum Tee Club of the Environmental Institute for Golf (EIFG), the philanthropic organization of GCSAA. They are also recognized at the Governor’s Club level of the EIFG’s Cumulative Giving Program for donors who have contributed between $50,000 – $99,999 since 1987.
