U.S. OPEN CHAMPION BRYSON DECHAMBEAU PAYS HOMAGE TO HIS ICON PAYNE STEWART

Fist-Pump Logo on Apparel and Headwear Available to Public

LOS ANGELES — Newly crowned 2024 U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau paid homage to his hero, Payne Stewart, by sporting a fist-pump logoed ball marker built into the strap on the rear of his hat. The ball markers are part of a fist-pump logoed hat available on the Payne Stewart Collection website.

DeChambeau’s connection with Stewart — a two-time U.S. Open Champion who also conquered Pinehurst #2 four months before passing in a tragic plane accident in 1999 — is more than just symbolic. It’s been an ever-present part of DeChambeau’s career, from his amateur days to now.

In lifting his arms in victory on the 18th green of Pinehurst #2 DeChambeau said, “That’s Payne right there, baby,” while showing the fist-pump logoed ball marker featuring Stewart’s iconic silhouette.

Despite being six years old when Stewart won the 1999 U.S. Open, DeChambeau holds special reverence for his fellow Southern Methodist University (SMU) alum.

“Payne Stewart is the reason I went to SMU.”

Stewart’s fashion made him one of the most identifiable players on the PGA Tour and, fittingly, his legacy returned to center stage with last week’s launch of the Payne Stewart Collection. The men’s luxury clothing line honors the indelible style and grace of one of the game’s most revered figures. Dubbed the “All-Time Best Dressed Golfer,” Stewart’s influence went beyond his sporting achievements. His personality, charisma, and class left an enduring mark on the world of golf and fashion.
