On February 14-16, the United Golfers Association (UGA) will host the UGA Invitational, presented by Coca-Cola Beverages Florida, at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida. This event will showcase rising golf stars and provide them with life-changing opportunities, including player development grants for the winners in the junior divisions.
Over the weekend, two exciting competitions will take place: the UGA Invitational for junior players and the Legacy Cup for students from primarily historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). In addition to these up-and-coming stars, we will welcome eight of the dozen Black women on the Professional Golf Tour Circuit. This landmark event will also honor the rich history of the National Championships, which ran from 1926 to 1976, and mark the beginning of a new era of opportunities for aspiring golfers.
UGA commemorates its centennial anniversary by honoring the Black golfers who developed their talents on the UGA circuit and paved the way for future generations. This includes special tributes and posthumous awards to trailblazers such as Ted Rhodes, Lee Elder, Renee Powell, Charlie Sifford, Calvin Peete, Althea Gibson, Jim Dent, and Jim Thorpe.
