Chris McGinley and Michael Boumansour Bring Key Experience to Top Sports Tech Brand
Novi, MI – V1 Sports, creator of the industry-leading golf swing analysis software for teaching pros and golfers, recently welcomed two significant additions to its growing product team with the hiring of Chris McGinley as Chief Revenue Officer and new Director of Software Engineering Michael Boumansour.
McGinley brings more than 30 years of golf industry experience that includes 21 years of both steady and groundbreaking innovation at Titleist, where he built category-leading product lines under the Titleist, Vokey Design, and Scotty Cameron brands. This is McGinley’s second stint at V1 Sports. As interim CEO in 2017, he helped transition the company to new investors and a fresh management team, stabilizing the organization. Now that the foundation is thriving and the company is expanding creatively and financially, he sees the opportunity to better connect athletes, data, and instruction.
Boumansour, a Michigan State University (BS, Computer Science) and Wayne State University (MBA, Business Administration and Management) graduate comes to V1 Sports by way of New York City, where he helped bridge the gap between business operations and technology for the likes of the New York Times and Warner Music.
“We’re excited to welcome Chris McGinley back full time,” says Bryan Finnerty, CEO of V1 Sports. “He is a well-known product expert with extensive experience presenting the benefits of technology to the world’s best pros and top amateurs. I can’t think of anyone else who fits as well in this role at V1. Likewise, Michael Boumansour brings a wealth of software engineering experience to our company, in a variety of industries, including automotive, music, and e-commerce. We’re extremely excited to add him to our team, as we believe he shares our core values, complements the skills we already have in the development team, and is a big believer in our process. He is a huge addition to advancing our V1 software, systems, and services.”
Combining his passions for golf and technology was a big impetus for Boumansour taking this role, as was the growth potential of V1 Sports. “In my 30 years of experience with software development, I’ve learned that no matter what a company has achieved, we can raise the bar even further and, in most cases, significantly further,” he says. “There are some great opportunities at V1 to unify the technology platforms and tools across the various software products that will allow us to be more productive and agile.”
“V1 strives to be the leader in being the connective tissue that unites golfers with improvement,” says McGinley. “Our goal is to tie together product, marketing and sales to enhance the V1 brand and the experience that our customers have with us. If we do that right, the company succeeds from the standpoint of our investors, associates and customers. We have a really exciting product roadmap that has taken shape, which will combine our expertise in swing data, game data and stats, along with new ways to collect and use data as you learn, play or practice. That, in turn, will allow V1 to further stand apart in the marketplace.”
V1 differentiates itself by helping golfers with their swing via the V1 Golf video analysis process, and their ability to score through the V1 Game mobile app for performance tracking. Golfers do this on their own or with the help of their golf professional or instructor.
“Moving forward we are adding new inputs and data streams into this ecosystem that can be used by both the golfer and instructor,” says McGinley. “V1 has always been a leader on the professional instructor side, so we need to establish more visibility with golfers and find more and better ways to help them on their journey. With experience on both sides of the ecosystem and an understanding of how having the right products facilitates that connection, we will be able to advance V1.”
