V1 Sports to Join in “World’s Biggest Golf Lesson” May to Set Record and Support COVID-19 Relief
Hundreds of Pros to Give Lessons Over Instagram Live to Golfers at Home
Novi, MI – V1 Sports (V1), leaders in video swing analysis technology for teaching pros and golfers, will be rallying support Tuesday, May 5 for a global charity initiative called “The World’s Biggest Golf Lesson.” The brainchild of UK-based golf instructor Gavin Grenville-Wood, Head of Junior Education at Leadbetter Kids (a division of the David Leadbetter Golf Academy), this online event will endeavor to reach 1 million golfers by virtue of roughly 1,000 instructors giving separate, but simultaneously-scheduled lessons broadcast over the free Instagram Live platform. The World’s Biggest Golf Lesson is scheduled to take place at 9am Eastern.
V1 Sports has encouraged the thousands of V1-affiliated teaching professionals to take part in this live event, adding that this is a fun, personal way for teachers to engage with their client bases. More announcements on V1’s participation in the Tuesday, May 5 event will be posted to the @v1sports Instagram account.
To take part in the world record attempt on May 5th, golfers should simply tune into their favorite golf coach on Instagram.Teaching professionals from around the world will each give a putting lesson, and the number of live viewers they get on their Instagram will be added to the global total. On Grenville Woods’ Instagram Live feed, renowned golf coach David Leadbetter will give a live talk just before the lesson begins, from his headquarters in Florida.
A different COVID-19 relief charity has been designated in each participating country. In the U.S., donations made as a part of this “free golf lesson” initiative will benefit Direct Relief (www.directrelief.org), an organization that is expanding its coronavirus response efforts through the large-scale provision of PPE and other medical essentials. Anyone interested in supporting the cause can do so at https://charity.gofundme.com/worlds-biggest-golf-lesson.
“A group of us thought it would be a great idea to create an event whereby coaches could come together and do something to give back to front line staff as they continue the struggle of caring for those unfortunately struck down with COVID-19,” says Grenville-Wood. “With online coaching being the only option for golf coaches around the world right now, the concept of delivering The World’s Biggest Golf Lesson was born.”
With a goal to teach more than 1,000,000 people at the same time, hundreds of coaches from around the world will be encouraging their collective networks and contacts to tune in to their Instagram Live broadcasts. Grenville-Wood points out that 1,000 instructors each reaching 100 viewers on Instagram Live would reach the 1 million goal and give golfers the chance to participate in a world record without leaving home.
The World’s Biggest Golf Lesson website has a “How Do I Instagram Live” page for instructors who need a little guidance at https://www.worldsbiggestgolflesson.com/instagram-live. While V1-affiliated pros ordinarily use the V1 Pro App and encourage their students to use the V1 Golf App, this event will be hosted on the Instagram Live platform, adding a sense of unity to the project and the attempt to set a world record. The current world record is 10,000 participants, but Grenville-Wood feels confident that May’s event will surpass that figure.
“There are tens of thousands of PGA golf professionals around the world, and these days many of them each have thousands of Instagram followers of their own” he says. “Using Instagram Live our participating golf pros will be able to reach a huge audience simultaneously. We hope to smash that record.”
The designated benefiting charity in the U.S., Direct Relief is a humanitarian aid organization, active in all 50 states and more than 80 countries, with a mission to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies – without regard to politics, religion, or ability to pay.
