The Valero Texas Open celebrated their 100th Anniversary with a first-time tour winner J.J. Spaun. Spaun finished the tournament 13-under and two strokes clear of second place earning himself an invitation to the Masters and the intricate Valero Texas Open trophy sculpted by Malcolm DeMille.
The iconic trophy features a crystal shaped Texas and Valero flag surrounded by hand sculpted San Antonio landmarks including: The Alamo, the San Fernando Cathedral, the Tower of Life, the Tower of the Americas, Frost Tower, Marriott River center, the Torch of Friendship and of course the world-famous San Antonio River Walk.
The perpetual trophy stands atop a three-tiered oak wood base that commemorates past champions of the Valero Texas Open going back to 1922, where the Champion’s trophy, that J.J. Spaun took home, sits on a single-tier oak wood base. The team at Malcolm DeMille is proud to be a part of a historic event by creating this stunning trophy. Congratulations Valero Texas Open for 100 years, and to J.J. Spaun on his win at the Valero Texas Open!
