Stafford, Va. … The Middle Atlantic Section of the PGA of America (MAPGA) has named American Sportscaster, Scott Van Pelt, host of ESPN’s “SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt” as the Association’s Earle Hellen Sports Media Award recipient.
The award honors an outstanding individual in the field of journalism for exemplary contributions to the section with regard to the promotion of golf, promotion of the MAPGA and PGA Professionals, based on scope and distribution, quality and content of media coverage and recognition as an outstanding journalist by his/her peers.
“Each year the MAPGA recognizes its most outstanding PGA Professionals and amateurs in the Middle Atlantic region for their contributions toward the game of golf and making both the PGA and the MAPGA better Associations,” said Jon Guhl, Executive Director, Middle Atlantic PGA. “As our Earle Hellen Sports Media Award recipient, Scott Van Pelt has displayed excellence in growing the game and inspiring individuals using the great sport of golf.”
Van Pelt, who is host of the midnight edition of SportsCenter, has been bringing his unique perspective to the world of sports since September 7, 2015. The program showcases Van Pelt’s passion for sports, with his self-deprecating wit and disposition toward celebrating stars and storylines. Since August of 2020, the program has originated from Washington, D.C. Van Pelt, who grew up in nearby Maryland, moved “home” along with the show to be closer to family.
In addition, Van Pelt serves as main host of ESPN’s golf coverage, including the Masters and the PGA Championship, two of professional golf’s majors, and he hosts SportsCenter reports and specials from the events.
