Troy, New York – Wadsworth Golf Charities Foundation has provided a $15,000 grant to Audubon International for its Monarchs in the Rough (MITR) program.
Audubon International is an environmentally focused non-profit organization offering members numerous certifications and conservation initiatives to protect the areas where we all live, work, and play. Monarchs in the Rough is a groundbreaking program designed to support the conservation of monarch butterflies by transforming underutilized areas on golf courses into vibrant habitats.
The initiative provides golf courses with resources to plant regionally appropriate milkweed, which is essential for monarch survival. This effort not only enhances the natural beauty of golf courses but also provides critical habitat for monarch butterflies while supporting a wide variety of pollinators through habitat conservation, restoration, and education.
The new funding expands MITR participation to all golf courses with at least one acre available to develop pollinator habitat, including active Audubon International members as well as non-certified courses.

Through MITR and Audubon International, golf courses restore pollinator habitats in out-of-play areas. This creates essential habitats for butterflies and raises awareness for the golf industry’s role in addressing the monarch conservation challenge.
