Dallas, TX – The Women’s All Pro Tour, the official qualifying tour for the LPGA’s Epson Tour, will be heading to Houma, LA, and Ellendale Country Club for the Houma Golf Classic. The four-day tournament will be a traditional stroke play format with a cut made after the first 36 holes. The field will feature over 100 of the best LPGA hopefuls competing to take home the first tournament of the 2022 season.
“Southern Louisiana is always a treat and Ellendale CC has had a long history of hosting professional golf,” said WAPT president Gary DeSerrano. “For over 15 years, they have hosted the APT with past champions including the current course record holder, Bubba Watson. It will be great to change this up and showcase the future stars of the LPGA to Houma this year.”
The Houma Golf Classic is scheduled for Match 8 – March 11, 2022. The 72-hole stroke play championship will be the first event of the inaugural PXG Race to Stage II. The Houma Golf Classic will set the tone for the season for many players, with a top finish setting you up for a strong 2022. The first winner of the 2021 season, Ginger Howard, ended up in the top-5 in the Race to Stage II.
“The golf course and country club received its fair share of damage but excluding the occasional stump remaining from the 150+ trees destroyed the golf course is in tremendous shape. The field should enjoy some great golf course conditions,” said Devin Thomas, GM of Ellendale Country Club. He added, “Like so many things after such a devastating event, it is nice to get back to some normalcy. Seeing the women back playing Ellendale is a big part of that road back to business as usual.”
Admission to the Houma Golf Classic is free and welcome to the public. For more information on sponsorships or to volunteer please contact Greg Crain 985-876-4394, eccgolfshop@bellsouth.net
