Wide Support Helps New Bobby Jones Golf Course Reach New Heights
The new Bobby Jones Golf Course opened for public play on November 5, 2018, after a year-long renovation. Thanks to the contributions of more than 130 generous individuals, foundations, and corporations the newly reimagined Bobby Jones Golf Course is now an unparalleled amenity in the Atlanta community featuring the latest in technology and design to help share the game of golf with players of all ages, interests, and skill levels.
The Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is grateful for all the donors who have contributed in support of the far-reaching project. Lead campaign support includes The Coca-Cola Company/Coca-Cola Bottling Co. UNITED; the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation; the Stuart and Eulene Murray Foundation; The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation/PGA TOUR Superstore; the James M. Cox Foundation; the Southern Company Foundation; and many others too numerous to mention.
“The positive impact the new Bobby Jones Golf Course will have on Westside Atlanta communities first drew us to the project,” said Penelope McPhee, President of The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. “The new course’s plans to collaborate with City of Refuge and Westside Works to match Westside residents with employment opportunities aligns directly with our mission. At the same time, the partnership between Bobby Jones and PGA TOUR Superstore gives us a special opportunity to connect young people and families to the sport of golf.”
The nonprofit will continue its final phase of fundraising to establish the Murray Golf House at the Bobby Jones property, a new facility scheduled to open in Fall 2019. The Murray Golf House will unite golf in Georgia under one roof on a historic course named for the most iconic golfer of all time. The clubhouse will become home to the State of Georgia’s major golf organizations, including the Georgia State Golf Association, the Georgia Section of the PGA, the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame, and others.
“The outpouring of support for this project is both exciting and humbling,” said Chuck Palmer, Chairman of the Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation. “We deeply appreciate each of our donors and look forward to watching how the new Bobby Jones Golf Course embraces junior golf and adaptive golf.”
The Foundation has raised approximately $23.5 million and is actively working toward fully funding the construction of the Murray Golf House.
