WIGI President Kay McMahon, LPGA/PGA, will interview fellow WIGI Member and business industry icon Donna Orender on the Importance of Women’s Sports and Leadership. Topics will span from business leadership and working in today’s post-pandemic environment to Title IX, diversity, and inclusion.
Orender’s background is impressive. She is a highly respected business leader having led growth and innovation for several high-profile companies and sports organizations. She’s been recognized as one of the Top 10 Most Powerful Women in Sports and one of Newsweek’s 100 Most Influential People in the Business of Sports. Orender is also a best-selling author with her release of Wowsdom! The Girls’ Guide to the Positive and the Possible.
Orender served six years as the President/Commissioner of the WNBA, where she solidified its base and led double-digit growth in all business metrics. Prior to the WNBA Orender spent 17 years with the PGA TOUR, serving as senior executive in the Office of the Commissioner. She developed and led global production, programming, and digital businesses for the TOUR, building globally recognized businesses in both revenue and prestige. She was also responsible for negotiating large television programming contracts for the TOUR.
As the CEO of Orender Unlimited, she’s been a visionary and a trailblazer. Her work has included the development of a strategic plan for the golf industry, focused on the emergence of new consumer markets. Orender was responsible for authoring Connecting with Her, a guidebook on the impact of the women’s market, and how to understand and access it. Her work has served as a blueprint for success evidenced by the significant increase in women golfers.
According to Orender, the focus on the betterment of women and girls is at the core of Generation W, which she launched in 2011. Generation W and its affiliate initiative Generation WOW have become communities for enhancing and motivating people’s lives and creating change and impact in their worlds. Generation WOW is a platform for a successful high school teen girl’s mentoring program which pairs women in leadership with high school girls to teach the power of connection.
