Country Club of Winter Haven Hires New General Manager
Private Club Industry Veteran Doug Carter Takes Helm at Central Florida Property
The Country Club of Winter Haven and KemperSports are pleased to announce Doug Carter as general manager of the popular private golf club in Winter Haven, Florida. Carter is an industry veteran and Class A PGA Professional with over 35 years of experience in the golf business having held numerous positions at clubs in both Illinois and Florida.
Carter began his career at Highland Park Country Club then moved to Ravinia Greens – both outside Chicago. He accepted his first general manager role at Chicago’s Antioch Golf Club in 1993. He has spent the last 23 years at Key West Golf Club in Key West, Florida where he served as general manager for the upscale resort course. Among his duties there, Carter oversaw golf, food and beverage, and pro shop operations.
“We are delighted to have Doug on board as our general manager,” said Winter Haven Board President Mike Mahalak. “His experience in a high end resort environment translates wonderfully to Winter Haven and we know he’ll be a great leader for our club with the support of KemperSports.”
The Country Club of Winter Haven is a private club located on the banks of Lake Hamilton in Winter Haven, Florida highlighted by an 18 hole Rees Jones and Bill Bergin designed golf course. The club includes casual and fine dining in its spacious clubhouse, five Har Tru and two hard tennis courts, a fitness center and a full golf practice facility. The Symetra Tour Florida’s Natural Charity Classic is held each March on the lakeside links layout along with a number of FSGA and USGA events annually. Chicago-based KemperSports has managed the club since August 2019. Membership at the Country Club of Winter Haven is available in full golf, national, junior golf and social and tennis categories.
