WEST PALM BEACH, Florida – On the back of the American Golf Industry Coalition’s visit to Washington DC, Women’s Golf Day (WGD) locations around the globe are ramping up their activity in the lead up to the weeklong celebrations starting on May 28 with WGD Palooza. Women’s Golf Day founder Elisa Gaudet was part of the delegation who shared their insights at Capitol Hill. More than 45 million people are engaging with the sport, including more women than ever before, driving a direct economic impact of $102 billion and 1.65 million jobs across the U.S. Golf is in great shape and WGD is a fantastic, proven method for locations to engage with this growing female demand.
Amongst the locations hosting events this year is Omni PGA Frisco, steps away from the PGA of America’s headquarters. This is the first year Omni PGA Frisco is hosting a WGD event and WGD Founder Elisa Gaudet will be in attendance on June 4th. “Women’s Golf Day unites women and girls, fostering empowerment and camaraderie through the game of golf. Beyond providing a delightful experience, it equips participants with skills that resonate throughout their lives,” says Trish Holt, PGA Head Professional at Omni PGA Frisco Resort just outside Dallas. “Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a curious newcomer, Women’s Golf Day, in collaboration with the Omni PGA Frisco Resort, extends a warm welcome. Let’s celebrate and empower women in golf together!”
The TPC Network will be hosting WGD events at 15 of their locations, most of which also hold PGA TOUR events including the famed TPC Sawgrass. Dobson Ranch Golf Course is another location in the US that is set for a fantastic day, having attracted 200 women to its first event in 2023. This year the Arizona venue is bringing in women owned businesses from across the state to enhance the event. Augusta Ranch Golf Club, also in Arizona and owned by the Vice President of the PGA of America Don Rea, will be hosting an event on May 30th which will be attended by Elisa Gaudet.
“We are encouraging women to get out and get social. Golf is such a social game and given the format of our events includes lessons for new players and a 9-hole round for existing golfers, it is a great way to Bring A Friend that is new to golf. We are leaning into this on social media as well using #BringAFriend and “Get Social” as our Palooza campaign “ says Gaudet.
There are several new locations in the UK joining the WGD community. Bramshaw Golf Club, the oldest course in the south of England is having its first event, as are Bromsgrove Golf Club and Canterbury Golf Club where WGD Ambassadors Emma Ballard and Leslee Moger will be playing respectively. Former PGA Captain Sarah Bennett is hosting at Lexden Wood Golf Club and former chair of the WPGA, Kirsty MacDonald, is inviting women to join her at historic Newark Golf Club in Nottinghamshire.
Further afield The Legend Golf Course in Mauritius and Palheiro Golf in Madeira are examples of island nations who have successfully run WGD events year on year and will do again this June. The Accordia Group in Japan is also back for 2024 with events across Japan including those at Okazaki and Izumisano Country Clubs. There are also events in Africa, South and Central America all of which can be found here: https://www.womensgolfday.com/locations/
