While golf has experienced a general slowdown in the Western Hemisphere, the same does not hold true for the Asia Pacific.
With close to 60% of the global population concentred in the Asia Pacific and with some of the fastest growing economies in the world, all the essential ingredients for the growth of golf in the region are in place and ready for growth.
One man who believes in golf’s positive future trends in the Asia Pacific is the enterprising and visionary T.K. Pen, founder and chairman of Orient Golf. “I want golf to be a white-collar sport,” he says, accessible to those making 5,000 yuan (about US$730) a month.” To help realise this vision, Pen has set up more than 15 golf courses to promote affordable golf and this pursuit continues under his leadership.
His commitment to grow golf does not stop there – he is the founder and chairman of the fast-growing China LPGA which is a powerhouse dedicated to developing topflight professional talent to compete on the world stage. To this end, Pen is well on his way into achieving his goal of developing women’s golf in China and the rest of Asia.
Pen is also a strong supporter of junior golf and each year he lends his support to various tournaments for juniors to help them develop and grow their interest in the game.
There is no denying that Pen is a major driver of the growth of golf in the Asia Pacific. This incredible man will be speaking at the World Golf Summit slated to be held in Haikou, Hainan in March and he is not an act to be missed.
